Changing Diabetes in Taiwan 2007
– a quick review of achievements

The Chinese Taiwanese Diabetes Association, Taiwanese Association of Diabetes Educators and Formosan Diabetes Care Foundation allied together, and officially launched the "changing diabetes" campaign, aiming on "unite for diabetes" propaganda.  A summary report was submitted.

In July 2007, the Chinese Taiwanese Diabetes Association (CTDA), Taiwanese Association of Diabetes Educators (TADE) and Formosan Diabetes Care Foundation (FDCF) allied together, to form a collaboration platform, and officially launched the “changing diabetes” campaign, aiming on “unite for diabetes” propaganda.

As an initiative, the three entities conducted a survey and collected 657questionnaires to re-identify the major concerns from stakeholders, e.g., people with diabetes, health care professionals, and policy makers.  Based on findings from the survey, several major activities were planned and delivered as summarized below.

1. “Changing the Future of Diabetes in Taiwan” Forum

2. Campaign video: “unite for diabetes – changing diabetes in Taiwan”
Raise awareness of global and domestic trend
Type II DM can be prevented, its development course can be controlled, the future of diabetes can be changed
3. Show your support to “unite for diabetes” campaign
Signup to support (more than 1,500 signatures collected)
Photographing with the “blue circle”
4. Launching official website www.changingdiabetes.tw
Sustained propaganda via website activities
Updated global development of “unite for diabetes”
5. Media propaganda
Thorough coverage of radio campaign, TV talk-show, and press conference
News release along with propaganda events
6. Drawing contest for children with diabetes
One of the major activities for Taiwan WDD 2007
Echoing the global theme, caring children and adolescents, of the first UN World Diabetes Day
7. College Champion – college student competition: proposal of awareness campaign in school
Developing creative activities to raise awareness and healthy life style in student cohorts
To change the future faces of diabetes by younger generations
8. “UN WDD Lights Up Taipei 101” Photography Contest
To mark the monumental occasion of the first United Nations observed World Diabetes Day, by lighting up landmark monument in the colour of the World Diabetes Day logo on Taipei 101 Tower, Taiwan

Our accomplishments for this year will be wrapped up on Dec. 1, at then; the three Diabetes Care entities will give a short review, in the ceremony to honor the winners of College Champion and Photography Contest.
